The first step is to establish what the client wants. With sketches and photos, we arrive at a final design approved. We've had customers walk in with pictures of Tiffany rings, Tacori and others, and wanted to combine aspects of each style to create a unique piece of news. The possibilities are endless!
The second step is the design part. What was once done entirely by hand can now be made in CAD (computer aided design) technology. We recognized the hand drawn design with all its specifications such that (finger width of millimeter size of the stem, the depth of the gallery, the size and pitch fork, etc. ...) and enhance the 3D design on the latest software jewelry industry. The advantage of software is that we can show the customer his piece before it is completed.
Then, send us the file for a cutter that constructs the ring in wax, layer by layer until the whole piece is completed. (before computers, a wax sculptor does all the work at hand) but with wax generated by computer, you can get more details and sharper finishing. This wax is used to create a negative mold of the ring, and the negative mold is then used to cast metal gold (white, yellow gold, platinum). The piece is now ready for setting. Diamonds or colored stones are carefully selected to meet Good size, quality and color and put in the ring. There are different types of settings and, often, jewelers specialize in one or the other. (A future article will deal with these types of environments). Once the stones are placed, the ring is dipped in a special chemical if it is to be white gold, without rhodium, white gold has a yellowish tint. If it is yellow gold or platinum, it does not require plating and will immediately be taken to its final stage, an expert hand polished to a perfect shine, ready to wear.
